Pekalongan Street Children Camp/Pekalongan City/15/02-28/02 /KIDS,EDU/12






Project Descriptions:

  1. Background: Pasir Sari, Poncol and Bugisan are areas in Pekalongan where children with less opportunities and drop out children living. It happen because of very less income of their parents who normally work in informal sector. A hard living in the city leads people to be hardly struggle for a living. This cause parents will insist their children as “money producer” by asking them to go down to street to beg money. Why children? because people will normally feell pity on children rather than adult in giving money. To solve this problem IIWC has concerned by having volunteer house pekalongan and place some LMTV (Long Middle Term Volunteer) who support those children education.

 

  1. Project: The hygienical situation, education is really low. The work camp should support the LTV in teaching the children as well the parents in Hygiene and how to raise their living standard. We will make station learning as we did for the weekend work camp. Furthermore we will make meetings with the parents to inform them about the importance of education, hygiene, etc.

 

  1. The aims of the camp are:

1. Supporting LTV in teaching street children in Pasir Sari, Poncol and Bugisan, long lasting hygienically education for children and parents, motivation drop out children to go to school again

2. Share experience in vulnerable group with IIWC LTVs

3. Experience and exchange the local culture with your origin culture for global friendship

 

  1. Work: station learning, playfull learning, artistic concepts, stories, art, sharing sessions, cooking session, games with local children around the campsite, cultural exchanges, etc.

 

  1. Special remarks: Expected results are better hygienical situation, less sicknesses, long term achievement. Target groups are Street children, children with less opportunities, drop out children, parents

 

  1. Accommodation: Volunteer house in Pekalongan, sleeping bag and mattress needed, self cooking

 

  1. Location: Pekalongan city, Central Java Indonesia.

 

  1. Language: English should be spoken among participants

 

  1. Fee: The participation fee payable upon arrival will be 185 Euros covering foods, local transport, accommodation, administration cost, insurance for accident, police certificate, material for the camps, T-shirt, and IIWC certificate of participation. Volunteers are requested to bear their own health and travel insurance. Please keep it in your mind that all personal expenses and free day expenses are excluded.

IIWC1306/Semarang Street Children Camp/Semarang/19/02-04/03/KIDS, EDU/18+/12 (FULL)

Project Descriptions:

  1. Background: The workcamp will take place in Bangun Harjo village, which is located in Semarang City. This village is very close with Johar Market, the biggest traditional market in Semarang. Most of the local people there are living in low economic standart, so the condition is dirty and flooded by sea water (sometimes). In this less advantage condition the children living in this area make money in the street even some of them do not go to school. In cooperation with one local NGO name ASA Rumah Pintar Bangjo which has one shelter for the street children around Johar market IIWC would like to support the NGO’s activity through an international workcamp.

 

  1. Project: The main works in Semarang Street Children Camp will deal with manual works of teaching and playing with children such as making handicraft, necklace, or small something easy to get and possibly arts or music as well as collaborating with local people like sharing the culture. As a part of this project, school visit and university visit, we will visit some schools/university to campaign the street children project and cultural exchange. These activities really need strong motivation and physic. The detailed works are broken down into the tentative schedule which will be sent together with welcoming email from the workcamp leaders directly.

 

  1. The aims of the camp are:

1. To create educative games for the children so that it will give them more time for positive activities in their home instead of going to street.

2. To create some activities dealing with personal hygiene for local children.

3. To exchange the vision of each country’s living aspects, including education, culture, and way of life, especially which concerns to education and health

4. To motivate the community (especially children in the area)

 

  1. Special remarks: target groups are the children. Be ready with lots of ideas and loves for children.

 

  1. Accommodation: The volunteers will stay in IIWC Volunteer house Semarang with shared toilet and bathroom, sleeping bag and mattress needed, self cooking. IIWC volunteers house Semarang is located more or less 6 km away from the workcamp project site. The group of the volunteers will take public car together to reach the workcamp site almost every day.

IIWC1308/Faza Camp/Semarang/05/03-18/03/KIDS, EDU/18+/12

 

Project Descriptions:

  1. Background: The project will be held in Fatimatuszahro orphanage. This workcamp organized together with Fatimatuszahro orphanage. Fatimatuszahro is a muslim orphanage accommodating not only children without parents but also needy children whose parents could not afford for their formal education.

 

  1. Project: this project site has been one of the long term volunteer project for IIWC with at least 5 long term volunteers placed there now. Poverty is a main reason why these parents entrust their children under the education of the orphanage. In this project the volunteers are expected to share knowledge, happiness, loves, and cares with them.

 

  1. The aims of the camp is to get to know the daily life of orphan children in order to have nice and meaningful relation with them then to share love and happiness together; to broaden their perspectives of life and possibility of their future dreams-what they want to be in the future; especially for this year, we would like to raise awareness of environment/ in term of garbage management system and self hygiene issue in this orphanage.

 

  1. Work: Together with Faza (the abbreviation of Fatimatiuz Zahro) LTV, volunteer will teach/ assist/ help the children with the garbage management system including the basic information and the system itself. By organizing some environment classes, the volunteers are to be working for raising awareness about garbage and by working together with the children making a huge garbage bin and some other bins for separating garbage, volunteers are to be involving in changing the habit of the children in the orphanage. Other works can be organizing some foreign language class, especially English, with possible and creative methods and approaches such as games, songs, quizzes, etc as part of cultural exchange. Volunteers can also arrange other activities of cultural exchange, gardening, sport activities, making wall magazine, outdoors activity, school visit, etc.

 

  1. Special remarks: Project with children; please prepare your big smiles, toys, candies, and origami paper, many ideas of games and plays, also interesting activities for children. Story books are also welcome. Very basic and simple life of Indonesian Moslem traditional orphanage. It will be very interesting and challenging activities with very attentive and enthusiastic children.

 

  1. Location: Ketileng village, Semarang Central Java Indonesia, just 30 minutes from Semarang Airport.

 

  1. Accommodation: the dormitory of the orphanage, need sleeping bag and mattress, self cooking

 

  1. Language: English should be spoken among participants. Little Indonesia or Javanese language are very welcome

 

  1. IIWC1309/Bali Camp/Bali Island/10/02-23/02/ENVI, EDU/18+/5

Project Descriptions:

  1. Background: the project collaborates with our local partner in Bali, named Yayasan Bali Hijau Lestari (YBHL). Those is Organized stand for help local people manage their nature sustainability. In that place there was not enough people care about their environment. So, we initiate to organize the project to help the local people to fix that probelm. In the international voluntary way, we facilitate people to take their awareness to their environment.

 

  1. Project: In cooperation with YBHL within the framework of their vision and to support the planting trees project which YBHL is responsible for it in the region, volunteer will take part as agent of raising awareness as planting trees volunteers by participating this workcamp.

 

  1. The aims of the camp is to revive the forests and water resource in an ecological and sustainable way, to raise awareness and promote actions to protect environment among volunteers & local people, and then to promote friendship, mutual understanding and solidarity among volunteers & local people

 

  1. Work: Mainly planting tree with comprehensive steps from digging whole for the baby trees, manually transporting earth and compost fertilizer, planting the baby trees, and cleaning the environment of the planting tree area. We may also try to organize the World Tanabata Action (global common action to prevent climate change) and/ or Eco Sponge Action (promoting to use acrylic sponges with which you can wash most of dishes without soap). The work will done by instruction of staff of local forest department

 

  1. Special remarks: this project has other activities beside our main work such as: Sports with local children, walk around the area, swimming in the lake, trekking on the mountains, one night home stay in the local houses (e.g. high school students who will join our work!?) and exchange parties with local people

 

  1. Location: Pura Jati Batur Lake in Kintamani county of Bangli prefecture on Bali island, Indonesia.

 

  1. Accommodation: Semi permanent camp. Food and drink are provided. Cooking is possible with limited access, only for cooking your instant food, every two or three days. Need to be coordinated on the spot with the field officers. Sleeping bags is needed.
  2. Language: English should be spoken among participants. Little Indonesia or Javanese language are very welcome

 

  1. Fee:

The participation fee classified in to two those are:

Ø Indonesian & int. Volunteer from countries with GDP Under US$ 10.000/year: IDR 1, 680, 000

Ø int. volunteer countries with countries with GDP up to US$ 10.000/year: IDR 2, 030, 000

Participants fee covers foods, local transport (including travel cost from/to the meeting point), accommodation, administration cost, insurance for accident, police certificate, material for the camps, and IIWC certificate of participation.
