Aggravated assault

" Aggravated assault" is defined as an unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe bodily harm, usually by the use of a weapon. Most offences occur during summer months. Aggravating assault usually occur within the family unit or among neighbours and acquaintances. Because of the close family, or other relationship between the victim and offender, convictions are often difficult to obtain. The victim simply refuses to cooperate with the police. Persons involved in these disputes look at their fights as family affairs and do not want to decide their conflicts through the courts.

ROBBERY

Robbery is defined as the taking of money or other items of value by means of force or intimidation. Unlike burglary or larceny-theft, robbery takes place in the presence of the victim. Robbery rates tend to increase in proportion to the density of the population. The volume of bank robbery has increased greatly since the days when Bonnie and Clyde were redistributing the wealth.

Law enforcement agencies are successful in making an arrest in about one out of four robbery offences which are reported.

LARCENY – THEFT AND MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT

Larceny-theft is defined as the unlawful taking or stealing of property without the use of force, violence, or fraud. It includes such offences as shoplifting, pocket-picking, purse-snatching thefts from autos, and bicycle thefts.

The volume of these crimes and lack of witnesses makes larceny-theft a difficult offence for police officers to solve.

Motor vehicle theft is defined as the unlawful taking or stealing of a motor vehicle. Most part of these offences is performed by juveniles. Crime continues to rise.
