Правила чтения английских согласных букв

1) Правило трёх НЕ:

НЕ УДВАИВАТЬ! sorry [‘sɒ rı ] – простите, Miss [mı s] – мисс, middle [mı dl] – средний

НЕ ОГЛУШАТЬ! red [red] – красный, dog [dɒ g] – собака, live [lı v] – жить

НЕ СМЯГЧАТЬ! sit [sı t] – сидеть, lip [lı p] – губа, spell [spel] – заклинание

Правила чтения буквы “c”

В сочетаниях «ce», «ci», «cy» буква «c» читается как [s]:

CE – century, cell phone, ceiling, policeman, face, fence, dancer, peace, Greece

CI – circle, city, pencil, cinema, circus, scientist, the Pacific Ocean, recipe, to recite

CY – cycling, cyclist, motorcycle, bicycle, tricycle, cyclone, cylinder, cypress, Cyprus

В сочетаниях «ca», «co», «cu» буква «с» читается как [k]:

CA – camera, carpet, carrot, cabbage, capital, Canada, America, Africa, cage, car, captain, camel

CO – country, continent, compass, crocodile, comet, second, cottage, coal, cold, cook

CU – cut, cup, culture, curtain, custom, cupboard, cunning, cute, cuckoo, cucumber

В сочетаниях «ck» буква «с» читается как [k]:

CK – ba ck, bla ck, co ck, clo ck, ro ck et, po ck et, ti ck et, ni ck name, sa ck, ru ck sa ck, ba ck pa ck

Перед согласными и в конце слова буква «с» читается как [ k ]:

Правила чтения буквы “g”

В сочетаниях «ge», «gi», «gy» буква «g» читается как [ ʤ ]:

GE – vegetable, legend, large, age, generous, intelligent, ranger, oxygen, geography, algebra

GI – giant, ginger, giraffe, gibberish, engine, logic, logical, original, region, register, neurologist

GY – neurology, gym, gymnastics, gymnast, gym-stick, Gypsy, prodigy, stingy, allergy, biology

Исключения: В словах get, geese, give, girl, gift буква «g» читается как [g].

В сочетаниях «ga», «go», «gu» буква «g» читается как [ g ]:

GA – gate, game, navigation, kangaroo, nightingale, alligator, gaga, garlic, gazelle, baggage

GO – go, mango, good, god, gold, golf, goblin, goat, goose, gorilla, gossip, government, bingo

GU – guitar, guest, language, linguist, guard, penguin, guinea pig, guide, guess, sea-gull, guy

Перед согласными и в конце слова буква «g» читается как [ g ]:

Granny, grass, green, grey, engrave, England, grater, bag, leg, mug, wig, frog, dog, hedgehog

[ ŋ ] в сочетаниях - ing, -ng:

Building, spring, reading, morning, evening, interesting, king, ring, long, sing an English song, tongue

Правила чтения буквы “x”

Букву «x» произносим [ gz ] перед ударной гласной: e’xamination, e’xample, e’xotic, e’xecutor.

В других случаях «x» произносим [ ks ]: exception, expertise, extravagant, mix, linx.

Правила чтения буквы “s”

Буква “ s ” читается [s] в начале слов, перед и после глухой согласной и в сочетании ss: save, sudden, spouse, caps, tips, best, less, chess, guess.

Эта же буква читается [z] между гласными, после гласных и звонких согласных на конце слов: close, choose, prays, photos, cells, pins, beds.

Правила чтения сочетаний согласных букв

ch – [ʧ ]: children, teacher, bench, cheese, chalk, matches, church, birch, chipmunk, sketch

sh – [ʃ ]: English, Scottish, she, ship, shop, share, wish, shower, shoulder, shoe, dishwasher

ph – [f]: alphabet, autograph, telephone, philosophy, elephant, atmosphere, phantom, phoenix

th – [θ ]: three, thousand, thunderstorm, thistle, month, health, both, thick, thin Но: marathon

th – [ð ]: this, mother, father, brother, together, weather, the Netherlands, bother, although

«Немые» непроизносимые согласные

b в bt, mb: doubt, climb, dumb.

g в gn, gm: sign, paradigm.

l в lf, alk, lm, в глаголах (could, should, would): calf, half, chalk, talk, palm, balm. Но: gulf.

n в mn: autumn, column, damn.

p в pn, pt: pneumatic, receipt.

s в isl: island, isle, aisle.

t в ft, st: often, christen, listen.

h в wh: what, where, when, why, white, wheat, whistle, whisper, whisk, whirlpool, whiskers

w в who: who, whom, whose, whole

w в wr: write, writer, wrong, wrinkle, wrist, wrestling, wreath, wrap, wreck

k в kn: know, knowledge, knife, knitting, knight, knock, knot, knee, knick-knack

Исключения: gh читается как [ f ] в словах

laugh [laː f] – смеяться

tough [tʌ f] – жесткий, трудный, крепкий

rough [rʌ f] – бурный (о море), ухабистый (о дороге), резкий (о ветре)

a rough – 1) черновик; 2) грубиян, хулиган

enough [iʹ nʌ f] – достаточно

cough [kɔ f] – кашель

trough [trɔ f] – 1) корыто; 2) котловина, впадина; 3) пьяница

draughts [draː fts] – шашки

draught [draː ft] – тяга, сквозняк

draughtsman [ʹ draː ftsmə n] – чертежник

Буквосочетание -ssion читается [ʃ ǝ n ]: depression, discussion, admission.

Буквосочетание -cial читается [ʃ ǝ l]: racial, social, facial.

Буквосочетание -cient читается [ʃ ǝ nt]: proficient, efficient, deficient.

Буквосочетание -ture произносим [tʃ ǝ ]: gesture, creature, mixture, torture.
