Weather and climate






1. Now let’s talk about weather and climate. What weather do you prefer?

Climate is very important for plants, animals and people. Today Belarusian winter and summer temperatures have really changed. There is little snow in January, and sometimes it rains in the New Year. It is so because of the greenhouse effect. British people like to talk about the weather. It is their favourite topic for conversation. The climate in Great Britain is mild because of the Gulf Stream. The weather in Britain changes very fast. A fine morning can change into a rainy afternoon. And a rainy afternoon can change to a sunny evening. The British also say that they have three variants of weather: when it rains in the morning, when it rains in the afternoon or when it rains all day. We see the climate in different parts of the world changes and it can be dangerous for our planet.

2. Are you weather dependent?

I think that weather can influence many people, but I am not a weather dependent person.

3. What questions would you ask a meteorologist?

How can you predict weather? Is it difficult to forecast for a long time? Why do you make so many mistakes?

4. What can you advise a person who wants to become a meteorologist?

If you want to become a meteorologist you should enter the geographical faculty of our university.

5. They say there is no bad weather, there are bad clothes. What do you think about it?

I think that every season is good and I like all the seasons of the year, all kinds of weather. We should just wear right clothes.

The text emphasizes the role of heroism and patriotism of our nation during the Great Patriotic War.

2. The author explains when the museum was created and how it has changed over the years. Find this extract and read it aloud. (2 абзац)

The decision to set up a museum dedicated to the fight against Nazi fascism was taken in 1942. It opened its doors in Minsk in July 1944. Millions of people have visited it since and, with the passing years, the need for a new, more spacious and well-equipped building has become clear. Each year, over 150, 000 people visit the museum. Of course, they hope to find objective information and leave with a lasting impression.

3. What will the visitors be able to see in the new museum? They will be able to see a number of technical innovations, such as dynamically lit electronic maps, electronic catalogues, interactive facilities which will help visitors to receive brighter impressions.

4. Why are people interested in the Museum of Great Patriotic War History? Because our nation showed heroism and patriotism during many wars including the Great Patriotic War and this can never be forgotten.
