Our Institute

This is our Pedagogical Institute. It is one of the biggest institutes of this kind in our country.

The Rector is at the head of the Institute. The Institute consists of 12 Faculties, headed by Deans. The Dean has an assistant to cope with different activities at the Faculty. He is called the Assistant-Dean. The latter is usually responsible for the students’ work and life, i.e. he is to advise students, organize examinations, take care of the students’ living conditions, deal with the students’ scholarships, etc.

As a rule there are several departments at each Faculty. There are four departments at our Faculty of Foreign Languages — the English Department, the German, the French and the Spanish Departments.

The teaching staff of the Department consists of professors, lecturers and tutors. They give lectures, take seminars and have tutorials with the students, examine the students during the examination session and supervise the students’ research work.

The students of our Faculty have a five-year course of studies, during which they are trained to teach two foreign languages.

Most of the students who come from other parts of our country are accommodated in the hostels of the Institute.

Our Faculty occupies a four-storeyed building. On the ground floor there is a cloak-room, a refreshment-room, a library with a reading-hall, and a lot of class-rooms.

In the library there must be thousands of books on different subjects and in different languages. As soon as the school-leaver enters the Institute he is allowed to borrow any book he needs from the Institute library.

Opposite the library there is a refreshment-room. Of course, it isn’t so large as our Institute canteen, which is in another building, but it’s very handy to have it at the Faculty – you can have a bite here during the break in between the classes.

On the first floor we have the Dean’s office and some Language rooms. On the walls near the Dean’s office we can see the timetable of all the Departments and a lot of different notice-boards.

On the second floor there is a well-equipped Language laboratory. And on the third floor we have an Assembly-hall and a lot of class-rooms.
