Ex. 1. Use Present Simple or Present Continuous. Translate into Russian.

 

C: Good morning, Is Mr. Green there?

M: No, he (not to be) here. He (to work) at the moment. He usually

(to work) until 4 p.m.

C: What about Mrs. Green? Where (to be) she?

M: She (to do) the shopping. She always (to do) the shopping on

Thursday afternoons.

C: Where (to be) the children?

M: They (to play) football. They always (to play) football after

school.

C: How you (to know) all this? Who (to be) you?

M: I (to be) the burglar!

 

Ex. 2. Use one of the Present tenses. Translate into Russian.

1. Where (to be) Andy? He (to play) tennis. He (to play) tennis well?

No, he doesn’t.

2. I (not to know) the man, who (to speak) to the director.

3. I seldom (to see) him, because he (to be) very busy now. He (to get) ready for his examinations.

4. Students (to be) usually very busy in May and June because they (to

get) ready for their examinations.

 

 

Ex. 3. Поставьте глаголы, стоящие в скобках, в зависимости от смысла, в Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect или Present Perfect Continuous. Translate into Russian.

 

1.Helen (to learn) English at the Institute.

She (to learn) English since last autumn.

2.They (to be) busy now. They (to discuss) an important question. They (to discuss) it since 5 o’clock.

3.Where (to be) Tom? He (to work) in the library. He (to work) long? -Yes, he (to work) since morning.

Ex. 4. Поставьте глаголы, стоящие в скобках, в зависимости

От смысла, в Present Perfect или Past Indefinite.

Translate into Russian.

1. You (to read) that book yet? –No, I onlyjust (to begin) it.

2. Andrew (to leave) Moscow? – No, he is still in Moscow.

3. When the delegation (to arrive) in Moscow? – It (to arrive) yesterday.

4. I (not to see) Alex at the lecture.

5. I (not to see) this film yet, but I (to hear) a lot about it.

6. He isn’t here, he just (to go) out.

7. I (to hear) no news from him since he (to leave) home.

8. We discussed the matter during the supper.

9. I cannot give you a definite answer as I (not to discuss) the matter with the manager.

Ex. 5. Put the verbs in brackets into Past Simple or Present Perfect.

Translate into Russian.

 

A: Last night I (to see) “The Bodyguard” at the cinema.

B: I already (to see) it twice.

A: Do you know that Mrs. Jones (work) here for sixteen years?

B: I thought she (to start) working here ten years ago.

A: You ever (to meet) anyone famous?

B: Well, I (to see) Jane Fonda.

A: Really? I (to meet) her father, Henry Fonda, once. But he is dead

now.

 

Ex. 6. Постройте следующие предложения в вопросительной и отрицательной форме.Translate into Russian.

 

 

1. I have brought you some very interesting books.

2. He put the documents on the table and went out of the room.

3. I have already read this book.

4. I swam after sunset, when I lived in Sochi.

5. Comrade D. has come. He is waiting for you downstairs.
