Warming up. Read and dramatize the following mini-dialogues. Make up your own short situations.

A. Going to University

Natalie: Hi, Fred, where are you going?

Fred: Hi, Natalie, I am going to my university. I’m having 4 classes today.

Natalie: That’s a lot! What classes are you having?

Fred: Well, Sociology, History, Theory of State Law and Foreign Language. And after that I will have some work over my paper in library.

Natalie: It will be a busy day for you.

Fred: I know, Natalie. But tomorrow I have only 2 classes.

Natalie: So how many classes do you usually have a day?

Fred: About 3-4.

Natalie: Typically I have 2-3 classes. But I have lots of extra home work, readings and research projects.

Fred: I see. Ok, I have to run.

Natalie: Have a good day at your university! And don’t be so stressed out.

Fred: Thanks, and you too!

B. Talking about a New School

Linda: Carol, look at my photos of my new school!

Carol: Mm, it looks lovely. Do you like it?

Linda: Yes, I do. I like its beautiful campus, departments, architecture and surroundings.

Carol: And what about teachers there?

Linda: Oh, they are all nice. They seem real experts on their disciplines.

Carol: And students? Are they friendly to you?

Linda: Yes, they are very pleasant and friendly, and they always help me if I need anything. I managed to make friends with many of them.

Carol: That’s great. Linda, what is this in the picture?

Linda: This is my department. It is the Management Department.

Carol: I like it. Do you have any favorite subjects?

Linda: Foreign Literature and Arts are my favorites.

C. Describing a University

Ann: Welcome to my university, Alex.

Alex: Thank you. The university is great. I really like the campus.

Ann: Yes, the campus is fantastic, just look, everything is situated in one place: the departments, the sport grounds, the library, the dormitories, the cafeterias and small shops.

Alex: It is very comfortable. When was the university built?

Ann: At the beginning of the XX century.

Alex: Oh, it’s ancient.

Ann: Some buildings are really ancient. For example, this western side was the first area constructed on the territory of the campus. The Department of History is the oldest one.

Alex: Yes, I can see it.

Ann: Some buildings were constructed later. New departments and centers are still emerging, for instance, look to your left, and you will see our Computer Information Laboratory which has been innovated recently.

Alex: Yes, I am impressed.

Ann: If you are hungry we can go to our Students’ Café, it is one my favorite places here. There you can relax and chat with your friends there and, of course, enjoy the food which is always fresh and good.

Alex: Ok, let’s check it out.
