Part 5 Output devices
Word list:
Read the text and perform the exercises that follow. The information that a computer program produces is a stream of coded symbols. In most cases, it is the job of the output device to decode these symbols into a form of information that is easy for people to use or understand, such as text, pictures, graphics, or sound. The four major types of computer output are: - Text, consisting of words, numbers, and other symbols in the form of a language. - Images in the form of graphics, animation, or video. - Sound that consists of music or voice. - Machine-readable data, which are symbols in a form that other computer systems or machines can use. The first three categories are usually output to people; the fourth applies to output that is actually the input to another computer system or a machine. Of these four categories, text is still the most widely used type of computer output. Output from a computer system comes in hard copy, soft copy, or machine-readable form. Hard copy refers to the recording of letters, graphics, or pictures on a hard medium, such as paper or film. Soft copy refers to the use of electronic signals to display a temporary image on a surface such as a video screen. Exercises to the subject: I. In pairs, discuss these questions: 1.
