Introduction. An Investigation into Public Opinion in Kazakhstan on Marriage and its Relation with Financial Security

An Investigation into Public Opinion in Kazakhstan on Marriage and its Relation with Financial Security

Introduction

Love was chanted in billions of novels, songs and films, but how many of them were devoted to the things like marriage, responsibility for someone or family values? While love is still being one of the favorite topics of the artists and authors, marriage is the term so many people do not want to discover[WU1].

Despite the delusion that love and marriage are the same, they are very close[WU2]. As very popular French actress and idol Catherine Deneuve (2012) said, “The best way to save the love of a men - not to marry him.”.I suggest you combine these two paragraphs into one.

Nevertheless, the understanding of love has changed in XXI[WU3] century. This is not love we read about in Shakespeare’s poems anymore. On the contrary, in the world full of people who seek for financial security it has become the name so many men give to greed and self-interest. Obviously, the vision of marriage has changed from the traditional view of a loving union to a union which resembles a business deal with the main objective of financial and material security.

Even if love and marriage are similar by their semantics, the intentions of modern lovers and newlyweds are different. There is no self-interest in love, because people who fall in it, seek for warmth and passion and they can quit at any time (with few scandal scenes, but anyway), however, marriage shackles man and women with certain duties and responsibilities so that they cannot just break these chains without sorrowful repercussions.

The other attempt to describe the difference between these two terms was made by American singer and idol, Mr. Frank Sinatra. In his popular song called “Love and Marriage” (1955) there are such words like:

Love and marriage, love and marriage,

Go together like a horse and carriage.

You can't have one without the other.

As we can see, there is another perspective that states love and marriage are inclusive and that’s why they are more likely to have the same intentions. This song created my concern about gender relationships and is one of the main reasons for the choice of the topic for research.

It is important to take into account my personal interest in the research. I wanted to know what people actually expect from marriage – is it an act of expressing feelings or is it just one more way of getting security? Since I believe that in order to be with someone you adore you do not have to instantly get a marriage certificate, I am inclined to think that people are driven by some hidden purposes when they decide to get married. That is why I am curious about one particular question – should people have to choose between building a career and starting a family?
