The Seasons

There are four seasons in the year, such as spring, summer, autumn and winter. March, April and May are the spring months; June, July and August are the summer months; September, October and November are the autumn months; December, January and February are the winter months.

The weather in summer is warm or hot. Trees and grass are green. The sun often shines in the sky. In summer it gets light early in the morning and it gets dark late in the evening. The longer the days the shorter the nights. Children do not go to school because summer holidays begin. A lot of people have their holidays too. In summer we like to go for a walk when it’s not very hot and the air is fresh. Children like to play outside. Summer is the most pleasant season. There is a lot of fruit and vegetables at this time. People usually like summer best of all.

When autumn comes the days become shorter and colder than in summer. It gets dark earlier. The weather is not so pleasant as it is in summer. The wind blows strongly and dark clouds often cover the sky. It usually rains in autumn. Trees and grass become yellow. Birds fly away to the south. Autumn is the season of fruit and vegetables. It is the most difficult time for farmers. In September schoolchildren and students begin their studies.

Winter is the coldest season in the year. The sun does not shine very much. It often snows. Lakes and rivers freeze. Winter is the most difficult season for birds and animals. In January children have their winter holidays. They like to be outdoors when it is not very cold. People usually ski and skate in winter. The days are the shortest because it gets dark very early.

It is very pleasant when the weather gets warmer in spring. The sun shines more brightly. Sometimes it shines as bright as it does in summer. There is a lot of water on the ground. It doesn't rain very often, but sometimes there are a lot of clouds in the sky. The days become longer. The birds return home. Grass and first flowers cover the ground. The trees become green. In spring there is a lot of work in the fields.
