Father: Son, mom is going to be out of town all week so we need to do the cooking. Tonight I’m just going to whip together a quick meal, but for the rest of the week I want to make nice homemade meals for you and your sisters.

Son: OK dad. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you cook though. Are you sure you know what you are doing?

Father: Not really, but I promised your mother I’d try. The first thing we need to do is thaw out the chicken that mom has in the freezer out in the garage. That is what I’m going to make tomorrow night.

Son: Sounds good dad, but what are you going to do with it? I vote for deep frying the chicken. Everyone loves fried chicken.

Father: That does sound good son, but I told your mom I’d make healthy meals. After thawing out the chicken I’m going to marinate it in a lemon sauce that your mother uses a lot. There will be a pinch of garlic in the sauce. Do you like garlic?

Son: I guess. What about vegetables? Mom would want us to have vegetables.

Father: Yeah, you are right. I’ll probably just dice up some carrots and onions with the chicken. Tomorrow night I’m going to bake the chicken in the oven and then let the chicken and vegetables simmer a bit before we eat.

Son: We will need some pasta to go with the meal. When I get home I will bring some water to a boil and throw the pasta in. I can do that. Mom lets me do it all the time.

Father: Ok son. Just don’t burn the house down. I get home about a half an hour after you do.

Son: Great. I’ll also heat up some garlic bread in the oven.

Father: Good idea. I think we are going to do just fine without mom for a week.

Son: I agree. Mom will be so proud of us!
