Thomas Fennel

He is a young accountant, employed by Julia`s husband to establish order in counting books of the theatre. Michael, introduces him to his famous wife.

Tom admired Julia and he was crazy to be introduced to her. The poor accountant is embarrassed, turns pale, and it is very pleasant for Julia to make happy the young man, she presents him her photo.Tom was a snob and she presented him expensive gifts and paid his debts. But Tom didn’t love her. He used her, like a fancy man. Eventually he prefered her to the third stage actress. But at first he refused, he said that he can`t get money from women. But Julia wanted to bind him to herself.

«Poor lamb» - thats how Julia called him

He wanted to get into world of luxury and he used her for that. In the result people start to recognize him, at first It was through Julia that he had got asked to parties that he wanted to go to. But later he could do without her.

«He was pleasant and unassuming, very well-dressed now, and with a fresh, clean look that was engaging; he was able to save people money; Julia knew the world which he was so anxious to get into well enough to realize that he would soon establish himself in it.»

He was not particularly good-looking, but he had a frank, open face and his shyness was attractive.He had curly light brown hair, but it was plastered down and Julia thought how much better he would look if, instead of trying to smooth out the wave with brilliantine, he made the most of it. He had a fresh colour, a good skin and small well-shaped teeth. She noticed with approval that his clothes fitted and that he wore them well. He looked nice and clean.»

Theme

" All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players» This is the main theme of The «Theatre». I understood that, when i read a dialogue between Julia and her sun Roger. He said that he doesn`t know her, because she`s never stop acting. He doesn`t know her real, his mother. When he was a 14 year he saw one her perform, and since that he have never believe her.

And maybe that includes us. Most of our life we don`t show our real emotions, because a lot of reasons: fear, sometimes it is not appropriate, not solid and so on. We always want to look like someone, pretend, we create in our mind an idol, and then suffer from it. We often act like Julia: То cry with one eye and laugh with the other. And this is scary. For instance when you speak with someone you never know what he is really think. As the result we stop to trust people

I can`t say that i support Julia`s behavior. I understand that sometimes we should hide our feelings and emotions, it depends on circumstances. But i think that we should try to be more genuine.

Who knows, maybe if we were a little more genuine, our world would be a little more better?
