Engine removal

Before taking the engine out of the frame, wash the engine with a steam cleaner. The procedure of engine removal is sequentially explained in the following steps, and engine installation is ef fected by reversing the removal procedure.

• Remove the front seat.

•

Remove the air cleaner side covers, left and right. (See page 1-12.)

• Remove the fuel tank. (See page 4-2.)

• Disconnect the inlet and outlet water hoses to drain out coolant. (See page 5-5.)

• Remove the radiator. (See page 5-5.)

• Remove the radiator bracket CD.

•

Place an oil pan under the engine and remove the oil drain plug to drain out engine oil.

• R emove the eight exhaust pipe clamp bolts.

•

Remove the muffler mounting bolt, then remove the ex haust pipe/muff ler assembly.

•

Loosen each carburetor clamp screw.

• Remove the breather hose.

•

R emove the front seat lock holder G) by removing the bolts.

• Disconnect the battery 8 lead wire from the battery terminal.

•

R emove the air cleaner case mounting bolts, left and right.

• R emove the air cleaner drain hose ®·

• R emove the air cleaner case assembly.

•

Disconnect the throttle cable ® and starter cable @.

• R emove the carburetor assembly.

•

Loosen the water hose cl a m p screws a nd d iscon nect the lef t a nd rig ht water hoses from the cyl i nder head.

• Discon nect the water thermo-switch lead wi res a nd cool i ng fa n thermo-switch lead wi res.

• R emove the thermostat case CD a l ong with the lef t a nd ri ght

water hoses.

• Discon nect the spa rk pl ug caps.

• R emove the gea rsh if t lever.

• R emove the eng i ne sprocket cover.

•

R emove the engine sprocket by removi ng the ci rcl i p.
