PAVLO TYCHYNA UMAN STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY

1. Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University was founded in 1998.

2. The rector (chan­cellor) of the University administers the campus of more than 6000 stu­dents and over 350 teaching staff in­cluding 5 Academicians and Corresponding Members; 37 Doctors of Sciences, Professors; 118 Candidates of Sciences, Assistant Professors.

3. The Pedagogical University has 4 institutes.

4. They are as follows: the Institute of Social and Art Education, the Institute of Philology, the Institute of Sciences and the Institute of Economics and Social Studies.

5. They consist of different departments, such as Natural Department, the Department of Physics and Mathematics, Preschool Department, the Department of Foreign Philology, the Department of Economics etc.

6. The Academic Division and Science Division administer graduate and post graduate courses and research at all Departments.

7. Professional training is carried out at the post graduate courses of Pedagogy, the Ukrainian language, Methods of Teaching, Labour Training.

8. Over 30 University students are engaged in post graduate study.

9. The University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Ministry of Education.

10. The University reputation for excellence has attracted many distinguished scholars and scientists in many fields of scholarship.

11. The academic council and the heads of the faculties determine academic policy and supervise the instructional activities of the University.

12. The University provides numerous courses of study in different specialities.

13. Broad curricula cover many subjects.

14. The students are selected by examination performance.

15. An academic year is from September lo July.

16. You study for 5 (or 4) years.

17. The graduates are granted a specialist degree and diplomas.

18. An additional one-year course on graduation can lead to the degree of Master.

19. The University graduates may teach, conduct research or hold administration positions.

20. The community is closely tied to the University.

21. Uman University is never static, it is always changing to meet new requirements, new conditions and serve society.

MY SCHOOL

I started school at the age of 6 and left it when I was 17. My school is a three-storeyed building in one of the residential districts of our town. Our school is open five times a week. Our classes started at 8.00 and lasted till 3 o'clock p.m. So we had six or seven lessons a day.

The school was built 20 years ago; it is quite a modern building. There is a sport - ground behind the school building and a yard in front of it. So I'll take you round the school.

The ground floor as in most schools is for junior pupils. The classrooms are light and large. There are three large windows in each classroom with flower pots on the window sills. There are a lot of portraits, pictures and maps on the walls.

All the windows face the school yard. Besides, there is a gymnasium here where we have physical training lessons. On the first and second floors there are many classrooms, laboratories, specialized rooms, workshops. They are equipped with modern teaching materials, visual aids, necessary devices and facilities. The senior pupils take mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, computer science, English and other subjects. Besides, there is a library and a reading room full of books and magazines. Opposite the library there is a school canteen where pupils can have a bite during the breaks. If you gо to the third floor you can see an assembly hall where parties and meetings are held.

School was a very good and unforgettable time in my life.
