Inserting the pin too deep will cause the rocker shaft to be unable to turn and the pin not to come off.






 

 
Turn the rocker arm clockwise and pull out the pins @ and

@.

 
NOTE:

The pin may be easily removed by nose pliers.

• Slide outthe rocker arm shaft.

 

 
Disassemble the following parts:

 
Spring Cl)

• Sub rocker arms @ and ®

• Eccentric bushings @ and @

• Main rocker arm @

• Washers @ and ®

CYLINDER HEAD ASSEMBLY (ROCKER ARM RELATED PARTS ASSEMBLY)

• Fit the eccentric bushing ® into the sub rocker arm CD and insert the pin @.

• Screw in the sub rocker arm adjust screw by approximate­ ly three complete turns and tighten temporarily.

I A CAUTION \

* Assembl e the eccentric bushing with its groove ® on the side opposite to the main rocker arm.

Do not allow the pin to protrude from the eccentric

bushing inner surface.

Two intake rocker arm shafts are each different and therefore do not confuse one with the other.

 


NOTE: The rocker arm shafts can be identified by checking for a grooved line:

With line --- Intake RH side Without line -- Intake LH side

 

 

• Fit the special tool (Rocker shaft turning wrench) to the rocker arm shaft.

While sliding in the rocker shaft, assemble the spring @ washer @, sub rocker arm subassembly (outside) @ and main rocker arm (/).

I A CAUTION \

Do not confuse the right sub rocker arm with the left one since they are different in dimensions.

Assemble the sub rocker arm subassembly (inside) CD and washer ®.

 

• Depress the main and sub rocker arms.

 
Align the pin hole @ with the pin @.

• Insert the rocker arm shaft with its center @ aligned with the stopper bolt hole @.

 

• Press in the pins < J) and ®·

 
Pull the rocker arm shaft by approximately 1 mm (0.04 in).

• Press in the pins ® and @).

Temporarily tighten the rocker arm shaft stopper bolt and check that the rocker arm shaft turns smoothly between LO and HI positions.

• Tighten the rocker arm shaft stopper bolt to the specified torque.

lightening torque: 11 N·m (1.1 kg-m, 8.0 lb-ft}

 

 

CAM SPROCKET INSTALLATION

 
 
The cam sprocket installing position is determined by the relative position between the arrows 1, 2 and 3 on the sprockets and the camshaft cutaway or grooved line. Refer to the illustration when installing.

ENGINE ASSEMBLY

• Fit the dowel pins CD and ®·

 

 

 
Install the actuator mounting plate @.

I A CAUTION I

* Bring. 6. mark forward.

* The plate is designed to be tightened together with the cylinder head using the same bolt. Therefore, the bolts must be tightened little by little diagonally.

Final: 27 N·m (2.8 kg-m, 20.0 lb-ft}

• Tighten the cylinder head nuts to the specified two-step torque with a torque wrench sequentially in the ascending order of numbers.

Temporary: 10 N·m (1.0 kg-m, 7.0 lb-ft} Final: 27 N·m (2.8 kg-m, 20.0 lb-ft}

 

 

• Tighten the 6 mm bolt @ on the front area of engine.

 
Install the oil hose @.

* Do not confuse the length of hoses between the right and the left as they are different.

* Do not fail to install the gasket.

Upper: 20 N·m (2.0 kg-m, 14.5 lb-ft} Lower: 27 N·m (2.8 kg-m, 20.0 lb-ft}

After ascertaining that the cam chain and cra nkshaft sprocket are securely engaged, slide in the cam chain

guide CD.
