END FOOTNOTE. Väsudevärcanam

Vä sudevä rcanam

On the day of the wedding, that devotee of Govinda who has accepted paï ca-saà skä ra initiation from a bona-fide guru, no matter which varë a he is from, should take his bath in the morning, perform his standard daily duties (such as sandhyä -vandana etc), and in a decorated maë ò apa or temple of Viñ ë u, should sit on kuç a and perform ä camana and viñ ë u-smaraë aà (by chanting the maì galä caraë a prayers).

He should establish a pot in a beautiful maë ò ala and put a copper plate on top. On the plate he should place a ç ä lä grä ma and then procede to worship the ç ä lä grä ma with the Puruñ a Sü kta prayers. At a wedding or any other function, Lord Nä rä yaë a or His ç ä lä grä ma form should always be worshipped. It is an offence to devotional service and to the holy name to worship Gaë eç a and the other demigods such as the paï ca-devatä s, Sü rya and the other planetary deities, Indra and the deities of the directions, Gauré and the mä trikas etc. Instead, the Vaiñ ë avas are worshipped. The evidence for this is in Padma Purä ë a:
