A dramatic FA Cup final

It had been the most successful season in Everton's history. The club had won

both the Footbal League Championship and the European Cup Winners' Cup.

Now they had come to Wembley hoping to win the FA Cup final against Manchester

United. A victory would make them the first English team ever to win the three

trophies in one season.

Both teams began the game cautiously. There was a minor alarm at Everton's end

after four minutes and a major one seven minutes later at United's. That was when

a long throw-in from Stevens flew deep into the United penalty area and had goalkeeper

Bailey stretching desperately to punch the ball clear. It dropped to Everton's
