The husband having taken his morning bath, should worship Lord Viñ ë u and worship the guru paramparä with Viñ ë u mahä -prasä da and caraë ä må tam

He should then set up a yajï a, performing Kuç andikä rites, calling the fire named “Candra, ” and ending with virupä kñ a japa.

He should seat his wife to his own right side on the West side of the fire upon a kuç ä sana. They should both face East.

Silently he should place ghee-soaked wood of one prä deç a length into the fire and then perform Vyasta Samasta Mahä vyahrti Homa:

oà prajä patiù viñ ë u å ñ iù

gä yatré chandaù

ç ré viñ ë uù devatä

vyasta samasta mahä vyä hrti home viniyogaù

oà bhü r svä hä - idam viñ ë ave idam na mama

oà prajä patiù viñ ë u å ñ iù

uñ ë ik chandaù

ç ré acyuto devatä

vyasta samasta mahä vyä hrti home viniyogaù

oà bhuvaù svä hä - idam acyutä ya idam na mama

anuñ ö up chandaù

oà svaù svä hä - idam nä rä yaë ä ya idam na mama

bå hati chandaù

oà bhü r bhuvaù svaù svä hä - idam anantä ya idam na mama

The husband, standing behind his wife, should touch her right shoulder, then her navel, repeating the following mantra three times:

oà prajä patiù viñ ë u å ñ iù

bå hati chandaù

ç ré mahä viñ ë u vä sudevä cyutä nanta govinda viñ ë avo devatä ù

pü à savane viniyogaù

oà pumä à sau mahä viñ ë u vä sudevau

pumä à sau acyutä nantau ubhau

pumä n govindaç ca viñ ë uç ca

pumä n garbhas tavodare

“ May the Supreme Lord, the Supreme Male, Mahä viñ ë u, Vä sudeva, Acyuta, Ananta, Govinda and Viñ ë u, and the male child reside in your womb.”

He should then perform Vyasta Samasta Mahä vyä hå ti Homa, and then throw ghee-soaked wood of prä deç a length into the fire silently.

He should then perform Ñ ä ö yä yana Homa, Vä madevya Gä ë am and the other rites of Udicya Karma. He should give dakñ ië ä to the initiated Vaiñ ë avas.

This is the Pü à savana rite according to the followers of the Sä ma Veda.
