vasoù sü ryasya raç mibhiù svä hä

“May Savita purify you with this faultless kuç a, with these rays from the sun.”

· He should then offer two more oblations of ghee into the fire in the same way without mantra.

· Holding the kuç as in his left hand, he should sprinkle water on them and then using the right hand, throw them into the fire.

· He should sprinkle the vessel of ghee with water and then lower it into the North part of the fire three times, and then lay it on strewn kuç a grass.

· Sruva Saà skä ra (purifying the spoon):

The sruva should be made from khadira, palä ç a or udumbara wood, and of a length of one “aratni“ (distance from elbow to tip of little finger). He should purify the sruva by sprinkling it with water, then by lowering it into the North part of the fire three times.

· Udakä ï jaliseka (taking blessings for performing the sacrifice):

Keeping his right knee on the earth and his left knee raised, he should pour water from his cupped hands from West to East on the South side of the fire, saying:

oà prajä patiù viñ ë u å ñ iù

gä yatré chandaù

ç ré ananto devatä

udakä ï jaliseke viniyogaù

oà ananta anumanyasva

“Please allow this rite, Ananta.”

· He should pour on the West side from South to North, saying:

oà prajä patiù viñ ë u å ñ iù

gä yatré chandaù

ç ré acyuto devatä

udakä ï jaliseke viniyogaù

oà acyuta anumanyasva

“Please allow this rite, Acyuta.”

· He should pour on the North side from West to East saying:

oà prajä patiù viñ ë u å ñ iù

gä yatré chandaù

ç ré viñ ë uù devatä

udakä ï jaliseke viniyogaù

oà sarasvaty anumanyasva

“Please allow this rite, Sarasvaté.”

· Agni paryukñ ana (sprinkling water around the fire):

He should sprinkle water around the fire in clockwise direction:

oà prajä patiù viñ ë u å ñ iù

gä yatré chandaù

ç ré aniruddho devatä

agni-paryukñ ane viniyogaù

oà prabho aniruddha prasuva yajï aà

pra suva yajï apatià bhagä ya

pä tä sarva bhü ta sthaù

ketapuù ketaà naù punä tu

vä gé ç aù vä caà naù svadatu

“Oh Aniruddha, bring forth the sacrifice, bring forth the Lord of the sacrifice for good fortune. You are situated everywhere. Purifier of desires, purify our desires. May the Lord of words relish our prayers.”

· Virupä kñ a Japa (prayer to the Lord as Virupä kñ a):

Raising his right knee from the ground, he should hold fruit, flowers, rice and kuç a between his fists, the right fist being above and the left fist being below. He should recite the following:

oà prajä patiù viñ ë u å ñ iù

gä yatré chandaù

rudra-rü po viñ ë uù devatä

ç ré mahä bhä gavata virupä kñ a jape viniyogaù

oà bhü r bhuvaù svaù

oà mahä ntaà virupä kñ aà tvä à ä tmanä prapadye,

bhä gavata virupä kñ o ’si dantä njiù tasya te ç ä yyä parne,

gå haà antarikñ e vimitaà hiraë mayaà /

tad devä nä à hå dayä ni ayasmae kumbhe ’nthaù sannihitä ni tä ni /

balabå c ca balasä c ca raksato ‘pramané animiñ at(e) /

tat satyaà yatte dvä daç a puträ ù,

te tvä saà vatsare saà vatsare kä ma prena yajï ena yä jayitvä

punaù brahma acaryam upayanti /

taà deveç u brä hmano ’si, ahaà manuñ yeñ u, brahmaë o vai

brä hmanam upadhä vati, upa tvä dhä vä mi,

japantaà mä mä pratijä più,

juhvantaà mä mä prati hauñ é ù,

kurvantaà mä mä pratikarñ é ù

tvä à prapadye / tvayä prasü ta

idam karma kariñ yä mi,

tan me rä dhyatä à

tam me samå dhyatä à,

tan me upapadyatä m /

samudro mä viç vavyacä ù / brahma anujä nä tu,

tutho mä viç vavedä ù / brahma aë aù putro anujä nä tu,

svä tro mä pracetä ù / maiträ varuë o anujä nä tu,

tasmai virupä kñ ä ya dantä njaye, samudrä ya

viç vavyacase, tuthä ya viç vavedase, svä trä ya

pracetase saasrä kñ ä ya brahmaë aù puträ ya

parama bhä gavatottamä ya namaù /

“I surrender with body, mind and soul to the great, beautiful Personality of Godhead, manifested as Agni, possessed of unlimited eyes and flashing teeth, whose resting place is under a palä ç a tree, whose golden abode flashes in the sky like lightening, who is accompanied by all the devatä s, who are situated in the metal kumbha.
